According to reports, Cisco will soon release a new carrier-class core routers, has launched six years as the CRS-1 core router, the next-generation follow-on products in order to better with Juniper Networks T1600 routers.

Oppenheimer & Co in a research report published last week said, MSC120 Cisco routers, Juniper Networks will be more than a single-slot 100Gbps of the T1600 router, and the representative of the CRS-1 will be the first major upgrade. MSC120 Cisco routers to reach a single-slot 120Gbps. Oppenheimer is expected to launch next month MSC120 Cisco routers, however, application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) issues may make this product the delivery time of deferred for another year or more.

Oppenheimer analyst IttaiKidron said in his report, we believe that Cisco's recently discovered support of ASIC design issues. This question may require a greater degree to re-design of this platform. This may make the product launch delayed until mid-2011.

Cisco Systems, said he does not comment on rumors or speculation. The company said that since the May 2004 launch of CRS-1 core router, it has already shipped more than 3200 units.

Oppenheimer believes that Cisco's used in the past is a three-chip set of the ASIC switching network architecture. However, Cisco recently discovered a design error, needs to be redesigned.

Kidron noted that this delay may give competitors a chance, because Cisco in the past faced the same problem - Oppenheimer believes that Cisco ASR9000 routers have faced the same challenge - but a final settlement of the Cisco问题.

Kidron said in the report, although the extension of such a long time is not a positive thing. However, we believe these things for Cisco's financial results will not have any impact. Most of the core router vendors has made the decision to change the decision-making is rare. We expect that Cisco will not be much to lose.

Oppenheimer is expected MSC120 will support the 12-24 slots, with a total throughput of more than 2Tbps. However, Kidron noted that it is unclear how to expand into the high-profile MSC120 - Juniper Networks T1600 router TXMatrixPlus router interconnect technology can be extended to 25Tbps.

Kidron that MSC120 will not give the appearance of the router market share in the router to bring much change. The company expects Cisco will maintain its 60% market share of Juniper Networks to maintain a 33% market share.
